The Hyde Park Education Complex School-Based Health Center was established in the Fall of 1995. We are a fully licensed health care facility. Our goal is to provide quality, culturally competent health care services to the students of Hyde Park Education Complex. It is one of many centers and clinics in Massachusetts that provide on-site health care services to school-aged children. |

- Physical exams for sports, school, and employment
- Immumzations
- Tuberculosis testing and follow-up
- Visits for illness or injury, and prescriptions

Who Works at the School-Based Health Center?
The Health Center is under the medical direction of Dr. Karen Hemmingsen, a family practitioner, at the Mattapan Community Health Center. The Center is staffed by:

Students can see a Nurse Practitioner at the School-Based Health Center, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Fridays, students can see the Nurse Practitioner at the School-Based Health Center from 7:30 a.m. to noon or at the MCHC's Adolescent Clinic in Mattapan from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. |

| Student Population: |
Approximately 1,100 students attend annually. More than 40% of these students are registered as School-Based Health Clinic clients. Three quarters of the student body is Black, 15% Hispanic, 7% White, and 2% Asian. |

| Services Provided: |
General physicals, sports physicals, dental screening, immunizations, family planning counseling, HIV/AIDS counseling, nutritional guidance, medical insurance referrals, social-wellness, and health education classes. |

| Health Education / Health Promotion: |
Classroom presentations focus on adolescent health issues
and promote positive and healthy physical, social, and psychological
development of adolescents. We also offer special 10-week Health/Life
Skills after-school programs, including a boys group and a girls
group. Basketball Clinic is offered during the Summer. |

Will it cost anything?
No student will be denied services. When available, the student's insurance plan will be billed for services provided at the center. Some types of insurance may required approval from a student's primary care provider. The staff will attempt to get these approvals when necessary.
