The Health Care Revival Initiative

The Health Care Revival Initiative was established in 1997 to engage the Mattapan community in dialogue about its health -- particularly the health of women, infants and their families. Therefore, this faith-based, community-focused outreach strategy is designed to focus on serious public health problems in an atmosphere that Renews our Vision, Rekindles our Commitment, and Revives our Spirit.

The Health Care Revival Initiative also brings to life our philosophy that a "Healthy Community begins with a Healthy You." This Call for Collective Action by Mattapan Community Health Center and its diverse Community Steering Committee continues to make a positive difference in the health of our community.
The Health Care Revival Initiative has received international recognition through publication in the peer-reviewed American Journal of Public Health, February 2002 and on the website of Africana.com, October 3, 2001. The Infant Mortality Rate for Mattapan was 1.6 times higher than Boston's rate during 1998-2002. The distribution of Health Information and the number of Health Screenings have increased each year. Early Detection of life - altering diseases has been identified annually. Participation of community residents and friends in the Health Care Revival has increased since 1997. Utilization of Health Center Services has also increased following each Revival. In collaboration with community partners, various community-friendly documents have been developed and distributed to the community. These include an Annual Community Health Report Card for Mattapan and Hyde Park. Each year a Community Service Award is presented to an individual or group who has been part of the solution for Mattapan.
Mattapan Community Health Center created a Community Service Award to honor individuals or organizations for extraordinary commitment and dedication to the community.
