Adolescent Health Programs

Description: The Adolescent Health Programs at Mattapan Community Health Center are developed to address the physical, social, psychological, and environmental needs of adolescents residing in the Mattapan community or who receive health care at the center or at the School-Based Health Center, located at the Hyde Park Education Complex.

Goal: To improve the health care status of adolescents in general and in Mattapan specifically through educational health programs that promotes positive healthy lifestyles.

Services Available:

Primary Care: Offered at Mattapan Community Health Center and the School-Based Health Center at the Hyde Park Education Complex that provides: physicals, immunizations, dental screenings/check-ups, nutritional guidance, family planning education, HIV/AIDS education, counseling and testing, sports physicals, social wellness counseling and referrals as needed

Social Wellness Services: Provided at SBHC in collaboration with the Student Support Team and at MCHC with referrals from the pediatric department by a LCSW

Nutrition and Fitness: Nutritional guidance received from our Registered Dietician
Obesity Study: This study is in the beginning processes and has shown that 53% of all children aged 6-14 who received care at MCHC within the last 2 years were obese. When fully completed, this study will be duplicated at the SBHC

Health/ Education/ Outreach/ Life Skills

Boys' Group - 10 week Health/Life skills after-school curriculum that enrolls 20 students at the Hyde Park
Education Complex.
Girls' Group - 10 week Health/Life skills after-school curriculum that enrolls 20 students at the Hyde Park Education Complex.
Health Education/Health Promotion - Classroom presentations conducted by the Health Educator focusing on aldosecent health issues promoting positive and healthy physical, social, and psychological developement of adolescents.
